Introduction:

The raster spatial GIS layers contained in this ZIP file were exported from the MCM-LTER Spatial Database. Other MCM-LTER GIS options and resources can be found at the following URL:

http://www.mcmlter.org/mapping.htm

----------------------------

Instructions:

1) Extract the ZIP file into a directory on your hard drive. None of the directories in the directory structure may contain spaces - this causes problems with raster datasets.
2) Open ESRI's ArcMap and add the raster files in the root directory

----------------------------

Layer Files Include:

-30m DEM made from USGS Topo map - This DEM was made by Chris Gardner (MCM-LTER Information Manager) using 50m contours.
-SPOT Satellite Image 39-558 - This image was acquired from Mike Prentice at the University of New Hampshire and is considered the best-referenced raster image available.
-LANDSAT 7 Satellite image - This image was downloaded as a high resolution JPG and georeferenced using the SPOT 39-558 file above by Chris Gardner. It is meant to be a basemap for visualization only, because most of the control points are found only in the Dry Valleys region to the North. Therefore the georeference is not extremely accurate.
